The Compliance Services Directorate within the Operations Branch is accountable for ensuring optimal compliance across all of MPI’s systems and is responsible for the delivery of compliance and enforcement services across animal welfare, biosecurity, fisheries, food safety, forestry and all other legislation administered by MPI.


The Chief Compliance Investigator role is a newly created role for the region and will contribute to MPI achieving its vision, by effectively managing, leading and supporting compliance investigations relating to all legislation administered by MPI.


Key areas of focus of this critical role will be:

  • Managing and leading the effective delivery of serious and complex compliance & enforcement investigations
  • Providing leadership and management to all employees ensuring that robust processes for communication, performance management, learning and development are effectively implemented
  • Ensuring that all resources within the function are managed efficiently and effectively Support and have promoting team engagement and cohesion
  • Supporting prosecution decision making processes for all offences under MPI administered legislation
  • Developing and maintaining the Compliance Investigations Group Standard Operating Procedures, Guidelines and Enforcement Processes to ensure investigative best practice
  • Contributing to national security and other New Zealand Inc. interests through the provision of strategic and tactical intelligence for major enforcement operations
  • Delivery of regional investigation strategies and plans
  • Developing and maintaining sectoral relationships within MPI, with co-regulators, industry, interest groups and other agencies (domestic and international) and the NZ public
  • Participating effectively in responses by working to allocated response roles(s) and response line management


This is a challenging position that requires a high level of dedication, self-discipline and self-motivation. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise and knowledge in the field and the ability to use that experience to support and develop others.
