Over 70 percent of New Zealand’s export goods come from the primary sectors. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is growing its presence in the Middle East and North Africa to strengthen and grow New Zealand relationships as a trusted trading partner of primary products and food. Our role is to investigate, open up and maintain access to markets, while developing the regulatory systems and relationships that support trade with overseas countries.

 

We are looking for a confident person, who like a challenge and can work globally across government, industry and trading partners. In the role of Counsellor (Primary Industries) you will be key in developing and implementing MPI’s responses to market access issues relating to primary produce and food, between the Middle East/North Africa and New Zealand. 

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in one of the following areas: economics, veterinary science, , forestry, horticulture, or biology, resource management, law, public policy 
  • Practical experience in sanitary and phytosanitary issues
  • Experience representing New Zealand in the international arena
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship management skills

 

This is a fantastic opportunities for these who desire a challenge.   You will be seconded to MFAT for the time you are overseas and then come back to NZ where we will find you a permanent role at MPI.
