  • Conduct analyses and audits to confirm compliance with legislative and programme requirements


We are looking for a motivated person capable of working in a small and dedicated team environment to join the Ministry for Primary Industries in a permanent Compliance Officer role within the ETS Operations Team.  The role will ideally be based around the central eastern North Island, located within established MPI offices.


This is a unique role that will allow you to deliver outcomes in accordance with the VADE compliance model.  In this role you will build and sustain positive working relationships with stakeholders which will include land owners, forest owners and other staff within the directorate and MPI in general.


Day to day duties could include:

  • Carrying out audits of forestry participants’ ETS activities to ensure compliance with legislation and regulations
  • Analysis to support the application of penalties and consideration of prosecution where non-compliance is identified
  • Analysis and identification of candidates for possible audit
  • Involvement in initiatives to assist participants comply with their ETS obligations


The Spatial, Forestry & Land Management is responsible for implementing policy initiatives to support sustainable land management, the use of our forestry resources and New Zealand’s climate change responsibilities. We cover the length of the country meeting and interacting with a wide range of forest owners of small blocks to large corporate interests


Bring your relevant tertiary degree or experience along with your strong analytical & report writing skills and your enjoyment of working in a fast moving, busy environment where no two days are the same. 



  • Demonstrated experience to think clearly with strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated audit experience or training.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage work flows.
  • Sound written communication ability.
