Read on if:
The PPS team manages MPI’s Strategic Portfolio – a group of the most important projects that MPI is focussed on in our role of growing and protecting New Zealand’s primary industries. The team sits within MPI’s Strategy Directorate, the home of the big picture thinking for the organisation.
The core functions of the team are those you expect of a Project Management Office – helping the organisation to choose the right projects that need to be undertaken, and then working with the projects to ensure they’re successful. Where we differ though is that we’re focussed on carving out a portfolio function that best suits MPI, so there is room to innovate and explore to find the best way to support implementation of MPI’s strategic direction.

To be successful in this role you will have project, programme and/or portfolio management experience, be customer focused, be capable of working with senior managers and keen to work in an innovative way that will have an impact right across MPI. You’ll also be adept at diagnosing issues and, more importantly, identifying solutions. You will bring a proven ability to work across a broad range of project types and a willingness to muck in and work on high priority initiatives emerging in MPI. This is not a project/programme management role but sound experience of project/programme and/or portfolio methodology is required.
Our ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a genuine interest in understanding the bigger picture within which you are operating and making connections that move us forward. A high level of personal motivation and enthusiasm for being a part of MPI is essential.
