MPI has a fantastic opportunity for a Manager who comes from a policy background. As Manager Food Policy you will be responsible for ensuring that the policy and regulatory frameworks for the food system meet its overarching objectives of ensuring safe and suitable food is sold to consumers in New Zealand and overseas and that there is confidence in New Zealand's food safety regime.
Working with the other Food Policy Manager, you will lead regulatory and non-regulatory reform programmes to ensure that the food system remains fit for purpose both in the short and long term, in a rapidly changing global marketplace. This includes working with industry to ensure that the food system supports growth of the food sector, monitoring and understanding international trends and working with countries to ensure that the design of New Zealand's food regulatory system is consistent with the world's best.
In addition to working closely with industry, the Manager Food Policy needs to be able to effectively understand the wide range of consumer views on all things food.
One key aspect of this role is managing the joint food standards system with Australia. Australia is New Zealand's third largest food and beverage export market. To help facilitate the relationship we have arrangements in place that mean New Zealand and Australia are committed to sharing the same standards for food labelling wherever possible. The Manager Food Policy is critical to ensuring this arrangement is operating at its best.
To be successful in this role you will need to;
- have a track record of delivering high priority projects,
- be able to work closely with Ministers and manage a diverse range of relationships across the Ministry and externally
- be someone who builds high performing teams (this team has a track record of performance)
- be a team player who can effectively contribute to leading the directorate
You will be interacting regularly with Ministers, a wide range of stakeholders and Senior Executives so excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with different audiences is vital.
This is a fast paced role. So if you have enthusiasm and initiative we want to hear from you.
