Are you a team player looking for an exciting new opportunity within an experienced team that is at the forefront of “Growing and Protecting New Zealand”?
MPI is looking for a high performer to join its Food Assurance team. This team ensures that we can have trust and confidence in the food that is imported to or exported from New Zealand.
The is a newly created position which will work in both the food import and export areas. The main focus of the role will be on developing requirements and associated guidance for the import and export systems. This is a policy-like process encompassing evidence gathering, option development, consultation, option selection, and finalisation of the system. The role will also be involved in implementation of resulting changes and ongoing review and improvement of the systems.
The position is based in Wellington in the Systems Audit, Assurance and Monitoring Directorate within MPI's Regulation and Assurance branch. This branch contains MPI's core regulatory functions. It provides the requisite confidence, transparency and trust to domestic and overseas consumers, overseas regulators and the primary industries as to the credibility, integrity and strength of our regulatory settings and systems for biosecurity, food safety and primary production (including animal welfare and fisheries management). We can offer variety, and unique opportunities to develop your skills within a large and dynamic organisation.
The successful person will be appointed as either a Specialist Adviser or a Senior Adviser depending on their qualifications, knowledge and experience. A Specialist Adviser would have the requisite qualifications and relevant work experience to work independently, lead large pieces of work, be perceived as an expert in their area and would mentor and assist others in the team. A Senior Adviser would be expected to have the fundamental knowledge necessary to work in the area, but may not have the experience necessary to “go it alone” and would lead small-medium pieces of work and would also assist others in the team.
At either level, the Adviser would need to work collaboratively with the team and other parts of MPI (including Market Access, Legal, Animal Products, Food and Beverage) to be successful in this position. They would also be required to give presentations to overseas Competent Authorities explaining how our systems work and to liaise and consult with external stakeholders to ensure that what we are proposing is practical and effective.
To be successful in either role you should have:
- a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. food technology, microbiology, veterinary, science degree, legal or policy)
- good relationship management skills
- flexibility in your approach to new challenges and ideas
- sound interpersonal skills
- sound communication skills, both oral and written
- appropriate knowledge of New Zealand's primary production and processing of animals
- knowledge of food safety and an understanding of food processing
- knowledge of current trends in the national and international food regulatory environment
- familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory systems and legislation for food and animal products
- experience in the development of implementation of systems.
If this sounds like you and you have the motivation and desire to be successful within a strong team of professionals, then we want to hear from you!!
