|Application Close Date:||31-Jan-2018|
One NAWAC member has resigned creating a vacancy for someone with a Maori perspective and knowledge and experience of the commercial use of animals and/or agricultural science.
NAWAC is established under the Animal Welfare Act 1999 to
- advise the Minister on issues relating to the welfare of animals; and
- develop, and advise the Minister on, codes of welfare.
Appointments are made, for a maximum term of three years, by the Minister of Agriculture, who is required to ensure that the committee has knowledge and experience in certain relevant areas.
There are generally four meetings a year, usually but not exclusively in Wellington. It is anticipated that there would be a day's preparation required for each meeting. In addition, members are called upon to participate in various working groups or subcommittees. Appointees are entitled to reimbursement of travelling expenses and a daily fee of $400 for meeting attendance and meeting preparation.
Further information on the committee can be found online and in its annual report. (Go to http://www.mpi.govt.nz/protection-and-response/animal-welfare/overview/national-animal-welfare-advisory-committee/ .)
Applicants must be New Zealand residents and are required to supply contact details for two referees. Applicants may be required to complete a conflicts of interest disclosure and undergo an interview and a Police check. Please note this is not a full-time position.
