We are looking for a high performing Senior Operational Manager to lead our Operational Coordination team. This is a critical role to MPI.

About the Intelligence, Planning & Coordination directorate:
We are responsible for taking leadership and control of intelligence functions and the management and enhancement of situational awareness. We ensure MPI is aware of risks, issues, and events within its operating environment that could affect performance and the delivery of outcomes. We also provide critical day-to-day supporting functions across the biosecurity, food, animal welfare and trade systems.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Director Intelligence, Planning and Coordination Services, you'll ensure MPI is aware of risks, issues, and events that could affect performance and the delivery of outcomes. You'll also provide critical day-to-day support to responses such as deployment and communications, for operational activity.
You'll manage the:
- National Communications Centre
- National Operations Centre
- Customer Enquiry Centre
- Target Evaluation Team
This role has a wide span and you'll work across a variety of initiatives as well as different systems and functions such as Biosecurity, Fisheries and Animal Welfare. You'll be coordinating activities that make a difference to MPI and the primary sector.
Skills and Experience:
To be successful, you'll be a high performing operational manager with experience working across operational environments. We are looking for a manager of managers and someone who can develop and implement support systems and tools.
You may bring experience and understanding of domestic and international primary industries and ideally have an understanding of responses. We are open to applications from a variety of backgrounds and experience in emergency management would be advantages.
You'll also need:
- An understanding of CIMS
- An ability to think at a high strategic level
- Able to maintain a clear focus on long term goals
- Excellent relationship managementskills
- Ability to operate in a fast moving and results focussed environment

Salary range for this role is approx. $116k to $150k depending on skills and experience.
You will be based in Wellington as part of a regionally based team of intelligence professionals across New Zealand. Regular travel to Auckland is required.
This position requires individuals to operate within multi-agency and collaborative environments, and the appointee will be required to attain and uphold a SECRET national security clearance. More information about security clearances can be found at here.
