Are you looking for a new challenge responding to New Zealand's latest biosecurity threats?
We are looking for an Adviser to lead, manage and deliver biosecurity response activity. This is an exciting time to join the team as we have a number of high impact and high profile responses and require extra staff to support these.
About the Response Group
The Response Group conducts responses to eliminate, reduce or contain the threats and potential impacts of biosecurity, food, trade or adverse event incidents. Our team is accountable for the delivery of effective responses aimed at reducing the impact of biosecurity threats to New Zealand's environment, primary industries, property and human health.
About the Role
As Adviser, you'll provide advice, lead complex biosecurity responses, and other significant projects, as well as contributing to response readiness. You'll be actively involved in readiness work, providing high quality, and well-reasoned advice on a range of plans, activities, products and initiatives, to improve MPI's response performance.
The response work programme involves engaging with other government agencies, key partners, the National Biosecurity Capability Network, and contracted providers of field services. You'll contribute to the realisation of the Readiness and Response strategy and team outcomes. You'll fulfil roles as the controller, function manager, or expert in biosecurity responses.
Your key areas of focus include:
- Participate and manage allocated responses
- Carry out response activity and escalate issues as necessary
- Support the Manager Biosecurity Response by providing technical advice, analysis and recommendations
- Work with members of the team to deliver coherent and effective work
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Skills and Experience
This role will suit you if you enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic environment where no two days are the same. You will be someone who thrives on getting things done, can follow instructions, as well as think for yourself. You'll be a self-starter with excellent relationship skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
Ideally you will have a graduate qualification in a relevant biological science or geography discipline and experience working in a government setting but we are open to applications from a range of areas.

Salary range for this role is $56,464 to $77,638 depending on skills and experience.
