The Policy & Trade branch here at MPI provides sector-level strategic thinking, policy advice and analysis, and supports government to government relationships to maximise export opportunities.
Within the branch, the Agriculture, Marine and Plant Policy Directorate works with stakeholders and government agencies to develop and implement policy, including legislative and regulatory frameworks that support dynamic efficiency, growth and development in the primary sectors. We also monitor and assess the performance of the primary sectors and provide an evidence base for policy proposals.
We are now looking for a keen, experienced Manager to develop and lead across two teams responsible for generating high quality primary sector data and economic analysis. The Manager Economic Data and Analysis is a Tier 4 manager role responsible for managing the Economic Analysis and Data & Analysis teams and their work programmes, and leading the development of MPI's data and analysis capability. You will be highly analytical and able to think strategically. You will work with the Economic Intelligence Unit and across MPI as well as the primary sectors to ensure data and analysis remains current and relevant and will support future policy development.
You will have experience managing a high-performing team producing a range of value-add resources or economic information. In addition we are looking for:
- Proven experience in leading and motivating staff
- Tertiary qualifications in economics or relevant discipline(s) and/or relevant experience
- Sound understanding of data quality requirements, performance monitoring, and effective data analysis and reporting
- Superb communication skills and experience in managing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
Key outputs for the team are the delivery of value-add economic information such as: Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries; regular economic insights, production and trade reports; trade and other economic modelling and forecasting; cost benefit analysis and economic impact assessments.
