The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is responsible for ‘Growing and Protecting New Zealand'. It's no mean feat and we have a team of hard working and dedicated people in a variety of roles supporting us to make this happen! MPI provides a range of services to ensure New Zealand is protected from biological risk and that the food New Zealand businesses produce is safe and suitable for us all to consume. Our overall ambition is for New Zealand to be the most trusted source of high value natural products in the world. Join us to help this ambition become a reality.
About our team
MPI leads and facilitates the management of animal welfare policy and practice in New Zealand, and is a key participant in the ongoing animal welfare debate. Within the policy team, we lead the provision of strategic and policy advice on animal welfare to the Minister and senior managers. In doing this we also collaborate with other parts of the Ministry and stakeholders, and work closely with the other teams in MPI that have animal welfare responsibilities and functions. You will be joining a dynamic team with a diverse range of background experience.
About the role
We are looking for a new Senior Policy Analyst or alternatively a Policy Analyst to join our team. We are currently working on a set of Animal Welfare regulations which will be in effect by May 2020. These regulations allow us to better enforce the Animal Welfare Act by setting out clear rules to protect animal welfare. You will be involved in developing the early regulatory proposals and working them through with internal and external stakeholders to the point of implementation.
To succeed in this role you will be someone who:
- applies critical thinking and analytical skills to challenge the status quo
- provides clear, concise, well-reasoned and practical advice
- will bring a ‘can do' attitude and take ownership of their work to deliver the best results
- has strong interpersonal skills and the desire to make a positive contribution to the team
- has experience in a policy/regulatory role
How / why to apply?
Our work stretches all the way from the Beehive to the border. If you want a career where you help to grow and protect New Zealand in a very real way then this is it. Our team is collegial, supportive and hard working. MPI has a focus on career pathways so this is the first step in your career with us and we will help you grow. You'll work with a great group of people, have an interesting workload and excellent development opportunities.
