We have an exciting new position within the Bacteriology & Aquatic Animal Disease Team at the Animal Health Laboratory based in Wallaceville. You will be responsible for developing and implementing diagnostic molecular tests for Rickettsia-Like Organisms (RLOs) of wild New Zealand Shellfish.
What will you be doing?
This role is responsible for the technical delivery of this project, which will include such tasks as DNA extraction, PCR primer design, PCR validation, and the implementation of new laboratory test procedures. You will also be expected to undertake field sample collections and the drafting of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
What you will need to bring?
You will need to have at Bachelor of Biological Sciences or a degree from a related field, be competent in performing molecular diagnostic tests and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience working within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory is desirable. Demonstrated self-motivation, planning and the focus on performing tasks to a high standard while meeting project deadlines will be required.
