Are you a leader looking to make a difference to things that matter for New Zealand?
New Zealand's economy, environment and way of life rely on effectively protecting the border from pests and diseases.
Keeping track of changes worldwide that continually challenge these protections will be the job of a new team – the Biosecurity Intelligence Team— being established at the Ministry for Primary Industries in Wellington, New Zealand.
Biosecurity intelligence is a specialised field focused on integrating science with the analysis of human behaviour – economic, political, and environmental – that impacts the spread of pests and diseases. The Ministry for Primary Industries is increasing its intelligence capability to better target biosecurity risk at the border.
About the Role
We are looking for two team leaders: Indicators and Warnings (I&W) who will lead and develop a new team of biosecurity intelligence analysts. You'll use your leadership experience to bring together analysts from a variety of scientific backgrounds dedicated to analysing and forecasting threats to New Zealand biosecurity, alongside MPI's existing intelligence function.
Along with the Team Manager Biosecurity Intelligence, you will build something new that has not been done before. Your role is instrumental in leading the work from concept to reality. You'll need to build and maintain momentum and be comfortable in an ambiguous environment. An essential part of your role will be to develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The team will have access to new analytical tools, and the opportunity to influence key decisions.
Ideally you will have a background in biological sciences, environmental science, economics or sociology, but you will have the support and capability of technical experts in science and intelligence.
Security clearance to the level of TOP SECRET is required for this position. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain this clearance. More information about security clearances can be found at here
