This dynamic role requires continuously improving New Zealand's biosecurity, food safety, fisheries, animal welfare, forestry, agricultural and trade systems. It involves driving change on numerous fronts, and predicting and adapting to constantly shifting domestic and global circumstances.
We have a fantastic opportunity available for the right person to play a central role in shaping MPI's strategy in to the future. The Director Strategy leads and engages in the development of organisational strategy on behalf of MPI and its business units. The Director will focus on strategy implementation and the processes to assess the organisation's progress against strategy, aligns investment to strategic focus areas, and where necessary, supports MPI's senior leadership to adapt the organisation, its capabilities and how it is organised, to enhance performance.
The position reports to the Deputy Director-General, Strategy Performance and Engagement, and leads approximately 30 staff.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- a track record of successful senior leadership and management, with the ability to work through systems;
- a sophisticated understanding of strategy development and implementation in large organisations, and the ability to maintain a clear focus on long term goals;
- an instinct for collaboration, with sophisticated influencing and communications skills;
- experience in change management and organisational design;
- proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- knowledge of relevant New Zealand legal and government frameworks and practices;
- experience in making business decisions with financial impacts.
