Then come and join the Ministry for Primary Industry's National Communications Centre (NCC) team. MPI's NCC is now recruiting casual staff and looking to fill a number of vacancies. The successful applicants will begin with two weeks full time paid training in Wellington– post exams, and shifts will be available to suit your schedule. This role is based in Porirua and will involve weekend work. Access to transport is needed.
About the Role
The NCC tracks and monitors field staff as part of the Ministry's risk mitigation strategy. We support our MPI field staff by monitoring their health and safety and providing real-time information to them as they inform, assist and enforce all relevant legislation and regulations across New Zealand.
This is an exciting role. You'll use communication systems and initiate any emergency procedures when necessary. You'll also assist with compliance by completing necessary checks when appropriate.
You will need to be comfortable speaking over a radio to deployed staff, be able to deal with members of the public who may be very passionate about the point they wish to make, and able to concurrently search multiple databases.
Skills and Experience
Full training will be given for this role and we are looking for motivated, adaptable, confident communicators who are fast learners and have lots of initiative. You'll be someone who is able to assess situations, make decisions that support our field staff and think on your feet. You'll be someone who is skilled in, and enjoys, dealing with members of the public.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Contact Centre/Call Centre or relevant customer service experience
- Ability to work in a busy environment and remain calm under pressure
- Strong PC skills including ability to type at least 40 words per minute
- High attention to detail
- Able to understand basic legislation
- Radio communications experience is also highly desirable
