About the Branch:
Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand's borders. Along with preparing for and responding to biosecurity incursions, it also manages border and compliance activities, diagnostics and surveillance activities and MPI's centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group.
About the Role:

This role sits within the Readiness Programmes team in the Readiness & Response Services Directorate. It is the role of this Directorate to support all of the portfolio-based business units within MPI (Fisheries, Biosecurity, Food Safety, and Forestry). In this way readiness is key to MPI's management of all of the major regulatory systems that underpin and support the primary sector.
The Readiness Programmes team plays a key role to MPI's wider readiness function. The mission is to ensure MPI has the people, resources, processes and systems to manage all threats to the food, biosecurity and primary production systems. The team oversees a programme of work which focuses on improving our overall readiness capability and developing and maintaining generic readiness to support and enable all readiness and response activities.
This position will have a focus on business systems and continuous improvement with some of the work being project based, ranging in scope and size.
The role will be focused on a range of work, including:
- Analysing and providing advice on high-level processes in the readiness and response space
- Delivering biosecurity models which inform key requirements for readiness work
- Contributing to the development of a clear operating model for readiness priorities
- Supporting the implementation of the Response Improvement Policy.
Skills and Experience:
You will lead the planning and management of readiness products and services, a key part of which includes managing relationships with senior leaders, stakeholders, vendors and suppliers. You will actively contribute to work across the team, MPI and other government agencies as required.
You will be communicative, have persuasive skills and you are an influencer and a coordinator. You will use your skills across a broad range of areas and work across the organisation, particularly the Readiness & Response Services Directorate.
You will have sound knowledge of the biosecurity system and how Government works. You will have proven experience in analysing issues and making business recommendations to solve these. To communicate these recommendations and perform effectively you will have excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills.

Salary range for this role is $82k to $107k depending on skills and experience.
