About the Role
The Communications, Engagement and Channels team are currently looking for 2 experienced Communications Advisers, 1 at intermediate level and 1 at Senior level, to support and drive communications on forestry related matters and associated regional economic development activity.
In these roles there are complexity and challenge, so no two days are the same. You will need to be energetic and adaptable to thrive in this environment. This role requires strategic nous and tactical know how. We think it's one of the most stimulating and important roles in town.
You'll have a key role in helping to deliver the Government's vision of planting one billion trees, through delivering top notch communications about the programme that inspire and encourage landowners, communities and others to plant up and down the country. Trees have a tonne of benefits from protecting the environment to growing the regions. This is your opportunity to play a part in this important programme.
You'll be developing and implementing communications plans that go above and beyond the standard template. We need someone who can be creative and push the boundaries to reach our goals.
The work will include pitching proactive stories to media, and being prepared to work on reactive issues when they come up. You'll also need to be flexible to jump in and help others in the team on issues then they need a hand.
You'll have a good risk radar and nose for innovative message delivery.
Skills and Experience
We're looking for people with a proven track record for stakeholder communications, the ability to think strategically and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidates will show initiative and be a self-starter whilst also being a creative problem-solver who can deliver on work programmes and work as part of a high performing team.
This is a busy and varied position. There is complexity and challenge, so you will need to be adaptable and innovative to thrive in this environment.
To succeed in the Communications Adviser position, you will need to demonstrate:
- Advanced skills in writing and editing communications material
- Ability to build credibility and trust with key internal and external stakeholders
- Experience planning for and delivering multi-channel communications including social media and web content
- Experience in project, event management and excellent organisational skills
- A proven ability to deliver quality material on time and within budget
To be successful in a Senior Communications Adviser position you will need to demonstrate all of the above plus;
- The ability to work directly with the Minister's office
- Have an understanding of the public servant's neutral role
- The ability to offer free and frank advice
- Be media and politically savvy
