Salary band: Salary for this role is $81,229 to $101,537. Starting salary for this role will be dependent on skills and experience of the successful applicant.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
As a warranted inspector, you will carry out verification activities in accordance with current legislation requirements under the Biosecurity Act 1993, particularly related to facilities holding and/or conducting activities on organisms including genetically modified organisms, plants, microorganisms, vertebrates, as well as other risk goods regulated under the Biosecurity Act.
Reporting to the Team Manager Biosecurity, the role sits with the Verification Services directorate. MPI Verification Services (MPI VS) provides a range of food safety biosecurity verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.
The role is Auckland based with our offices near Auckland Airport. The work is hybrid and will consist of on-site verification, office work and working from home. You will be provided with a vehicle to travel to the on-site verifications and office.

To be successful for this role you will:
- Have a relevant microbiology, molecular biology, horticulture, plant pathology, or science degree;
- Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary industries in the context of import requirements;
- Have effective inter-personal and people management skills;
- Have knowledge of the principles and practices associated with verification, Quality Assurance systems, Risk Management Systems;
- Have effective oral and written communication skills;
- Have a full driver's licence and ability to drive Class 1 vehicles.
