Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
As a Senior Policy Analyst in Cost Recovery, you will play a key role in supporting the team's policy expertise within cost recovery and charging practices. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of a policy framework, as well as establish clear and repeatable processes for regular updates to fee regulations.
In this role, you would have the opportunity to:
- Help the team drive the Cost Recovery directorate's work programme, contributing to its core policy work streams and annual review processes
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships across a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Build and deliver priority cost recovery workstreams for MPI
- Develop cost-effective policy options for Government action related to the primary sector
- Provide coaching, mentoring support, and advice to analysts

To be successful in the role, you will ideally bring experience and passion for policy. We are looking for a candidate who is proactive, shows initiative, and has experience building and maintaining relationships with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will also be capable of providing leadership and guidance across the business on cost recovery issues.
We are seeking an applicant who:
- Can apply critical thinking and analytical skills when problem solving
- Provides clear, concise, well-reasoned and practical advice
- Is able to write clearly and succinctly for a range of audience
- Has a sound understanding of, and experience operating in, Government processe
- Will bring a ‘can do' attitude and take ownership of their work to deliver the best result
- Has strong interpersonal skills and the desire to make a positive contribution to the team
