Policy Analyst – Global Research Alliance
Permanent Full-Time
Location: Wellington
Salary Range: $72,781- $97,056 depending on capabilities, skills, and experience
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
This role in the International Policy Directorate in the Policy & Trade Branch of MPI, which has responsibility for hosting the Secretariat of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA), leads New Zealand's collaborative international research and capability building efforts on agricultural greenhouse gases.
The key responsibilities are:
- Support New Zealand's role as Secretariat of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA)
- Support New Zealand role as host of the GRA Secretariat.
- Contribute to the management of fellowship and awards programmes.
- Contribute to briefings and reporting on New Zealand GRA activities.
- Support New Zealand's bilateral relationships through the GRA.
- Supporting other team members on a range of activities to support New Zealand's involvement with the GRA and our domestic climate change related work.
- Monitoring developments relevant to the GRA in the international context.
Mōu - About You
You will bring strong written and critical thinking skills and have the ability to work with ambiguity. Your experience or interest in the primary sectors as well as experience in tackling an issue, researching, developing proposals, reviewing and providing advice will enable you to achieve results.
You will have a relevant tertiary science qualification as well as:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong critical thinking and analysis skills.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to think clearly and make decisions under pressure.
- Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage work flows.
- Sound oral and written presentation ability.
- Ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships and networks.
- Excellent problem anticipation and solving skills.
- Ideally a sound knowledge of basic components of New Zealand's international climate change obligations, or strong willingness to upskill.

MPI leads New Zealand's involvement with the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases and supports the GRA objectives to:
- reduce the emissions intensity of agricultural production systems;
- find more opportunities to increase the potential for soil carbon storage (a process known as sequestration);
- align national research programmes and develop collaborative research projects; and
- build knowledge and expertise across the global science community.
