Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
This position will expand our Regulatory Delivery Integration team in New Zealand Food Safety.
You will primarily focus on engaging with the Seafood sector, including work to refresh the regulated control schemes that apply to this sector.
In this hugely important role, you will be part of a team of similar advisers, who you can learn from and contribute to a range of projects, initiatives and contribute to standards development within New Zealand Food Safety.
You will be at the forefront when it comes reviewing our food safety legislation to ensure that it is fit for purpose and giving expert guidance to businesses about how to comply with the requirements. Future work may also see you involved in other sectors such as Dairy, Meat, Wine and other foods.
This is an exciting time to join the team and this role will see you add value to both the Regulatory Delivery and Project teams, and across the New Zealand Food Safety business unit.
Mōu - About You
Do you have a background working in the Seafood industry and can hit the ground running with your wide knowledge of food laws and policy?
In addition, we are looking for someone that has:
- A qualification in food science, microbiology, food technology, food engineering, veterinary science (or similar experience) is ideal.
Don't let this be a barrier. Our successful team members have a wide range of backgrounds and experience
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety
- Experience in absorbing technical information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of government processes and legislation
- Work experience in food processing sectors such as seafood, meat, dairy or other food is desirable

This is a team made up of Advisers, Seniors, Specialists and Data Analysts who report to the Team Manager Integration who all work towards strengthening our organisation to delivery and ensuring food is safe and suitable for all of New Zealand.
We are a team dedicated to protecting consumers from the risks associated with all types of food in New Zealand, and our standards form the basis for New Zealand's food export system.
New Zealand Food Safety plays a key role in setting the rules and creating the systems that food business use to grow, import, make, and sell safe food.
