Biosecurity Support Officer
Role type: Full-time, fixed term until May 2026
Location: Plant Health & Environment Lab in Tamaki – Morrin Road, St. Johns
Salary band & range: H - $59,559 to $78,758 depending on skills and experience
We are looking for a dedicated and organized Business Support Officer to assist with facilities management and provide administrative support to the team. This role would suit someone with strong customer service skills, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
About the Role - Kōrero mō te tūranga
As a Biosecurity Support Officer, you will play an integral part within the business support team, providing logistical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the Biosecurity North directorate. You will be working as part of a close-knit team, where you will be responsible for providing business support to the Border Clearance Managers and frontline staff.
Some of your core day to day duties will involve the following:
- Data entry and administration
- Minutes of meeting
- Facilities Management
- Managing a team email inbox and responding to emails
- Processing invoices and ordering goods
- Assisting with Operational Support functions
About You - Mōu
You will be agile, adaptable and have the ability to succeed in a complex and sometimes ambiguous environment. You will be a team player who is strong on systems, processes, and relationships. We are looking for high level ability within the MS Suite and sound secretariat skills and experience.
- Knowledge of administration and business support systems and processes
- A drive to deliver an exceptional customer experience in every interaction
- Effective communication, questioning and listening skills
- Multitasking and prioritizing across multiple stakeholders
- A high level of organisational skills, the ability to deliver on time and solve problems as they arise.
- Clean criminal record

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
This role reports to the Team Leader Biosecurity Support and will be working within a team of Biosecurity Support Officers located across the Auckland MPI offices.
Biosecurity New Zealand has a critical role in preventing harmful organisms crossing New Zealand's borders. It manages border and compliance activities as well as preparing for, and responding to, any biosecurity incursions that may occur. This business unit also manages MPI's centralised intelligence, planning and co-ordination group which was established to manage food, biosecurity and animal welfare response consistently and effectively.
