Role type: Fixed-Term full -time until 18 January 2026
Location: Wellington
Salary band & range: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
Biosecurity New Zealand is seeking a developing Adviser to join our Biosecurity Risk Advice group, part of the Biosecurity Import and Export Standards directorate.
This is a great opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who is looking to build experience as an adviser while contributing meaningfully through administrative and coordination support. As a developing Adviser, you will primarily support the group's work programmes, projects, and technical activities.
Bring your skills to:
- take meeting minutes and prepare documentation
- coordinate and provide logistical support for learning workshops
- support team operations through administrative coordination
- assist in the development and review of New Zealand's biosecurity standards
- support the collation and maintenance of risk advice used across the biosecurity system
- build registers and tools that support informed decision-making around biological risks
- establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders across the biosecurity system

About You - Mōu
To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification and likely have work experience operating in a regulatory environment. You could be someone who is early in their career or a recent graduate and looking to develop your advisory experience.

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
The Biosecurity Risk Advice group sits within the Biosecurity Import and Export Standards directorate of Biosecurity New Zealand. Our directorate is responsible for managing the pre-border part of New Zealand's biosecurity system by stopping pests from coming into the country. You will be supporting the Biosecurity Risk Advice group which provides advice to support decisions made by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Reporting to the Team manager Regulatory & Risk Assurance, you will be joining the Regulatory & Risk assurance team. The team is made up of two Senior Adviser's, a Senior Technical Writer, and a Specialist Adviser.
