Team Manager Containment & Audits
Role type: Permanent full-time
Location: Auckland
Salary band & range: General Salary Range – C $119,376 to $139,700 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
As the Team Manger, you will be part of the Verification & Programmes leadership team and have a key responsibility to support Biosecurity NZ in delivering operational excellence and technically sound import clearance decisions.
You will be responsible leading our containment & audit function nationally and lead a team that delivers a range of verification and audit activities in Auckland and upper north island. You will work closely with our leadership team to achieve technically sound and nationally consistent outcomes which will require strong relationships with a number of key stakeholders from across the Biosecurity system.
Containment facilities are a critical compent of New Zealand's biosecurity system that enable a range of imports into the country in a safe and secure manner that support our primary industries, research and science sectors.
About You - Mōu
You will bring the following skills or experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline(s) and/or relevant experience
- A proven ability to make high quality technical decisions in complex environments on the most appropriate interventions to ensure the desired biosecurity outcomes are obtained.
- Significant experience in organisational renewal utilising continuous improvement methodology in alignment with Biosecurity NZ strategic direction and priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and reputational / risk management skills
- The ability to actively manage multiple moving parts and an eye for detail.
- Experience in an operational management position, preferably with a regulatory focus bringing strong operational management skills including the development of national and strategies, plans and budgets, priorities and processes to meet business objectives.
- Good knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of auditing, inspection, Quality Assurance Systems and Risk Management Systems.

The Verification & Programmes team are a diverse and talented group of professionals who are passionate about biosecurity and protecting our economy and environment. We work on the business – delivering smart systems, streamlined processes, and expert support – so our operational teams can focus on making confident and timely biosecurity decisions that protect New Zealand and keep trade and travel moving.
The Verification & Programmes team is based across all major MPI offices across the country and the Containment & Audit team are largely based in Auckland with an adviser based in Wellington.
