Senior Business Analyst
Role type: Fixed Term – December 2028
Location: Auckland or Wellington
Salary band & range: General Salary Range D: $100,934 to $129,804 depending on skills and experience.
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
The Senior Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in leading high-quality business analysis across complex programmes and projects, with a strong focus on designing and implementing people-centred, efficient, and secure solutions. This position supports strategic decision-making and continuous improvement by partnering with stakeholders across MPI and external agencies.
The role will be a key contributor to the successful delivery of the Non-build/Transformation Workstream within the Plant Health and Environment Capability (PHEC) Programme supporting the construction of a new Plant Health and Environment Laboratory in Mount Albert, Auckland. In this role, you will lead business analysis activities such as scoping, requirements gathering, and solution design and solution assessment using tools like service blueprints and journey maps.
You'll collaborate across MPI and other partners to co-design services and processes that enhance operational efficiency and align with strategic priorities.
Responsibilities include:
- stakeholder engagement,
- vendor coordination,
- risk reporting,
- mentoring team members.
- ensure thorough documentation and traceability throughout the project lifecycle,
- helping foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
About You – Mōu
You'll have significant experience in business analysis, process improvement, or a related field. Your ability to provide strategic advice and engage confidently with senior decision-makers will be key, along with your expertise in Design Thinking tools such as journey mapping, personas, and service blueprinting.
You'll be skilled in translating complex analysis into actionable insights through clear communication and presentation. With a proven track record in writing business cases, solution assessment and delivering innovative outcomes, you'll apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills using established frameworks. You'll also demonstrate a collaborative approach, building effective relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, and be comfortable navigating ambiguity in fast-paced environments with a focus on continuous improvement. You'll bring a strong understanding of the machinery of government and thrive in cross-functional, multi-agency environments.
