Job Description
Job title: Health, Safety and Wellbeing Adviser
Role type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Wellington
Salary range & band: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $98,135 depending on skills and experience
About the Role – Kōrero mō te Tūranga
We're looking for a proactive and collaborative Health, Safety and Wellbeing Adviser to join MPI's award-winning team. You'll play a key role supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people who work across a diverse range of environments including forests, farms, ports, laboratories, and corporate offices. You'll be supported to learn and grow, with shadowing and development.
Be part of an award winning team recognised at this year's Safeguard Health and Safety awards in first place for the best health and safety governance initiative.
As a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Adviser, you will:
- Triage and respond to reported health and safety incidents, ensuring timely and effective follow-up.
- Provide general health and safety advice and support across MPI.
- Assist with the development and implementation of key initiatives and team priorities.
- Build and sustain positive working relationships with MPI staff, external providers, and other government agencies.
- Support effective partnerships with iwi, hapū, and Māori organisations to ensure culturally appropriate engagement.
About You – Mōu
You're honest, resilient, comfortable working through ambiguity, and enjoy engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. This is a great team to join if you're curious about the “why” behind health and safety and are keen to build your understanding of risk management.
You'll be supported by a small, collaborative team with a good mix of experience and energy. A tertiary qualification is helpful, but we're more interested in your transferable skills, especially your ability to meet deadlines, write clearly, and apply yourself. We're looking for someone who's unflappable, self-aware, and eager to learn.
We're especially interested in candidates who have:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Friendly interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage others.
- A collaborative adaptable approach, with a focus on results and continuous learning.
- A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience).
You do not need to meet all of the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you could make a great fit.
About the Team – Mō tō mātou Rōpū
We're a Wellington-based team of ten that work collaboratively right across the organisation to implement and maintain organisational frameworks, provide advice, support, and embed risk management into our practices and culture.
We're a close-knit group with a good sense of humour. You'll find a supportive environment with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow with any excuse for morning tea and cake.
