Adviser Certification Audit
Role type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Auckland
Salary range & band: General Salary Range G: $67,658 to $78,771, depending on skills and experience
Working hours: 40 hours per week between Monday to Sunday, 7am – 9pm
About the Role – Kōrero mō te Tūranga
As an Adviser within the Certification Audit team, you will provide certification of New Zealand food products for export, and issuance of consignment specific documentation to exporters.
This is an exciting opportunity to support New Zealand food producers to export products.
Core functions of the role include:
- Performing verification checks to ensure all requirements are met to provide MPI official assurances for phytosanitary certification, free sale certification for processed foods, quota certification (dairy), wine certification, organic certification, grade and OECD certifications, and other non-animal product certification as required.
- Perform desktop based internal audits for animal product certification at a national level for certifiers and verifiers within MPI.
- Contribute to sector specific tasks and projects that support the national certification programme.
This work supports several different industries with variable seasonal peaks across the year so flexibility will be required. Rotating rostered shifts will be between Monday – Sunday, 7am to 9pm. You will be working with multiple stakeholders internally and externally and is a great opportunity for someone who prides themselves on attention to detail, and their ability to function to deadlines.
About You - Mōu
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with an understanding and genuine interest in the primary sector and its contribution to the New Zealand economy, in particular dairy, horticulture, wine, free sales or other exports. We are looking for a great collaborator, problem solver, and team player to ensure turnaround times are met. Our ideal candidate is someone who is driven, efficient, and customer centric.
Your experience will include:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in horticultural, food or biological sciences, quality assurance, or equivalent work experience in export.
- Demonstrated high attention to detail and the confidence to gather, organise and understand technical information.
- Excellent stakeholder and engagement skills and use analytical and problem-solving skills to make sound judgements.
- Understanding of the Animal Products Act 1999 and the Food Standards Code (desirable)
- Familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory systems and legislation associated with primary production and processing of animal products (desirable)
- Have the ability to organise and prioritise to efficiently accomplish tasks and meet objectives.
- Be quality focused and work well under pressure.
- Have good computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard e.g. word-processing, excel, internet, email, database.

About the Team – Mō tō mātou Rōpū
The Certification Team sits within the Verification Services directorate of New Zealand Food Safety. This specialised team are responsible for providing official assurances for New Zealand products to be exported around the world. In this position, you will work on site with a team of Certification Advisers at the Auckland MPI Centre. This team prides itself in providing a collaborative and respectful environment where they work together across a variety of interesting work programmes.
