Role Type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Wellington
Salary range & band: General Salary Range F: $76,463 to $101,967 depending on skills and experience
(Midpoint for this position is $89,215)
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
Are you passionate about shaping the future of Aotearoa New Zealand's primary industries? We're looking for a curious and motivated Policy Analyst to join our Accelerating New Mitigations team within the Programmes and Planning Directorate of Policy and Trade.
As a Policy Analyst, you will directly support the Government's structured accelerating new mitigations programme to get the tools and technologies to reduce agricultural emissions into the hands of farmers.
You will:
- Develop policy advice and analysis and contribute to legislation and regulation that supports our primary sectors.
- Provide clear, well-reasoned advice to Ministers on a range of issues.
- Support Ministerial work through briefings, responses to Parliamentary questions, and Official Information Act requests.
- Work collaboratively across MPI and with other government agencies on a range of policy issues.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to help shape practical, effective policy.

About You - Mōu

A degree in public policy, environmental science, law, economics, or another relevant field is preferrable, but what matters most is your potential and your passion for making a difference.

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
Policy and Trade provides sector-level strategic thinking and evidence-based advice for effective government decision-making for systems related to agriculture, forestry, fisheries, biosecurity, food, animal welfare and rural communities. Our people are our greatest resource. They are collaborative, supportive, passionate, and are highly skilled in a range of economic, science and social disciplines.
This is a Wellington based role reporting to the Head of Accelerating New Mitigations Programme and working alongside a team that brings a mix of industry knowledge, machinery of government experience and promotes strategic thinking. The team has a collaborative working style so that everyone feels supported in contributing to their collective goals.
The team also works closely with the Policy & Trade business unit, wider organisation, and industry bodies, so there is ample opportunity to build meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
