About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
This role supports incident management across Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) by coordinating and triaging reports to ensure investigations are assigned, completed, and closed out to a high standard. You'll bring a steady, self-aware approach, ask good questions, and be comfortable navigating ambiguity while you learn.
You'll gain strong exposure to MPI's diverse operational risk profile, growing your understanding of health and safety practice, risk management methodologies, and assurance processes. Over your first six to 12 months, you'll have plenty of opportunities to shadow experienced team members and develop your technical capability within a supportive, tight‑knit group. If you're curious about the “why” behind health and safety and want to build genuine expertise, this role offers a meaningful pathway.
In this role you will:
- Triage incident reports, allocate investigations, and ensure timely close‑out
- Work with operational staff across varied business areas to provide general health and safety advice and support.
- Manage and respond to queries in the shared inbox
- Support contract administration and team invoicing
- Learn from experienced team members and develop HSW capability
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and good-humoured team culture
About You - Mōu
You're someone who brings a calm, steady, and self-aware approach to your work. Any exposure to health and safety is a bonus, but what matters most is your curiosity, resilience, and willingness to grow within a small, supportive team. You'll enjoy the chance to build your capability in an environment that's never dull and offers strong technical development. This role could suit a new graduate in health and safety, policy, human resources, legal or related disciplines.
You'll bring:
- A relevant qualification or transferable health and safety related experience
- Clear writing skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Interest in learning and developing HSW capability
- Openness, curiosity, and willingness to ask questions
You do not need to meet all of the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you could make a great fit.
