Role type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Wellington City
Salary band & range: General Salary Range C: $119,376 to $153,670 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
The Ministry of Primary (MPI) manages an incredibly diverse NZ wide property & asset network which comprise a mix of services facilities, administration, office premises and auxiliary infrastructure.
The Project Manager works closely with the National Property Commercial Manager, to ensure that all project management, administration, planning, and reporting requirements are aligned with the project's overall objectives and are delivered efficiently and effectively. The Project Manager will use the methodology and tools available and as required by the Ministry, including those relating to risk management and supporting governance arrangements.
The Project Manager will be:
- Preparing and developing investment cases for property and larger facilities projects
- Extensive co-ordination and communication with both internal and external stakeholders and affected parties
- Identifying and analysing all options for the delivery of projects
- Managing the delivery of fitout works and building upgrades
- Ensuring consistent approaches to procurement and delivery of projects and compliance with Ministry standards
- Supporting and liaising with user group representatives and chairing project group meetings
- Delivering and advising on the Ministry's built intellectual property
- Providing technical reviews to options
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, effectively, providing value for money to a high quality ensure all project management, administration, planning, and reporting requirements are aligned with the Ministry's Property Strategy and Work Plan
About You – Mōu
You will bring your project management experience coupled with a keen sense of commercial acumen to deliver optimal outcomes for MPI's operations. This is an interesting role where no two days will be the same.
In this role, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential. You'll be working with a wide range of stakeholders who sometime have competing priorities, and you'll need the confidence and judgement to navigate complex situations—particularly through periods of disruption and uncertainty. We're looking for someone who thrives on engaging with people, can build effective relationships quickly, and is comfortable facilitating conversations, resolving issues, and guiding groups toward agreed outcomes. If you enjoy working collaboratively, communicating clearly, and bringing structure and calm to challenging environments, this role will suit you well.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Knowledge and experience of managing a medium to large property portfolio within a corporate or government environment
- A proven track record in negotiating contracts and other related property transactions
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to the management of commercial property
- Understanding of the administration and management of relevant legislation relating to contracts and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent knowledge of contracts and understanding of project management principles
About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
The Property and Assets team are responsible for the nationwide delivery, management and optimisation of an extensive nationwide portfolio. You will be working with a close-knit team of professionals that are focussed on delivering optimal outcomes to empower MPI's operations. The team has a strong focus on practical pragmatic solutions that support MPI's objectives. We are driven by a sense of pride in the role we have in supporting New Zealand's largest economic sector.
