Make a difference with data that shapes New Zealand's forests
Join Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service and play a key role in delivering insights that support the sustainable future of Aotearoa's forestry sector. As a Data Analyst, you'll help turn complex data into meaningful intelligence that informs national policy, planning, and programme delivery.
About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
This is more than a typical data role—it's an opportunity to shape how forestry insights inform real-world decisions across Aotearoa. As a Data Analyst in Forestry Insights, you'll sit at the intersection of data, policy, and planning, turning complex and varied datasets into meaningful stories that support national programmes and long-term land use thinking.
You'll work closely with colleagues across MPI and the wider natural resources system, building a deep understanding of forestry data and how it connects to broader priorities. Whether you're pulling together information from multiple sources, developing clear and useful reporting, or exploring “what if” scenarios that influence future planning, your work will help guide important decisions.
Day to day, you'll be balancing hands-on data work with collaboration—connecting with stakeholders, responding to queries, and contributing to a growing data and insights capability. It's a role where curiosity is valued, initiative is encouraged, and your ability to translate data into insight will make a genuine impact.
About You - Mōu
You're someone who enjoys making sense of complexity. Data doesn't just sit on a page for you—you're naturally curious about what it means, what's driving it, and how it can be used to support better decisions.
You bring experience in analysis or reporting, along with the confidence to work with a range of stakeholders and understand their different needs. You will be confident using statistical programming languages like R and dashboarding tools like Power BI. You're comfortable navigating competing priorities and can work independently, but you also value collaboration and building strong working relationships.
Just as importantly, you're a strong communicator. You know how to translate technical information into something clear and meaningful, whether you're talking to subject matter experts or a broader audience. You take pride in producing high-quality work, stay organised under pressure, and have the initiative to see things through.
If you're motivated by purpose-driven work and want to contribute to the future of New Zealand's forests through data and insights, this could be a great fit.
